RACC Adds Art Transfer Degree

Reading Area Community College created a new program that caters to students interested in a career in art. Whether students want to major in Art, Graphic Arts or Fine Arts, the Art Transfer Program will give students a strong foundation in the art curriculum.

Highlights of the program include foundations in the formal properties of art, hands-on skills that can be built upon with additional coursework, and strategies for exploring individual creativity within the parameters of classroom production. These classes will consist of 24 students or less allowing for individual interaction between the instructor and students.

In addition to the General Education requirements of the College, required courses for Art Transfer students are:

ART 111 Intro to Drawing 3 Credits
ART 112 Drawing II 3 Credits
ART 113 Two Dimensional Design 3 Credits
ART 121 Painting 3 Credits
ART 230 Three Dimensional Design 3 Credits
ART 250 Art History I 3 Credits

The College also recommends electives that include Web Design I and II, and Web Design Graphics for a well-rounded background.

RACC's Art Transfer degree will parallel programs at four-year institutions, allowing students the choice of entering the workforce with an associate degree or transferring for a bachelor's degree. RACC graduates have successfully transferred to Tyler School of Art, Moore College of Art, Albright College, Kutztown University and others.

This degree can prepare students for careers in commercial design, graphic arts, digital design, art education, fine arts, and a wide range of photography- and print-related disciplines.
