Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period (between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm) Monday through Friday exclusive of a 1/2 or 1 hour lunch. These hours are to be agreed upon between the supervisor and employee at the onset of employment.This position may require evening and/or weekend work with the employee having the option of working this time in addition to, or in lieu of regular hours.
Full Time (100% Grant Funded – Intensive ABE Services)
Summary:
The Adult Ed Teacher reports to the Director of Literacy Programs who will assign location and hours of the Adult Ed Teacher activities. This position provides the educational component for the Learning2work program students. This individual may serve as the primary instructor for the adult literacy (ABE/GED or ESL) programs. Instruction assignments may be made in any of the instructional areas and are subject to change based on program needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain responsibility for instruction and classroom management under the provisions of the Division of Adult Education.
- Maintain good communications and working relationships with appropriate staff, appropriate agencies, and class site location staff.
- Maintain good communications and work effectively with all other offices of the college on matters concerning the program.
- Adhere to procedures and policies for the smooth day-to-day operation of the program.
- Participate in professional development activities as required.
- Be responsible for the timely completion of all forms and reports as required by the program funding source.
- Attend staff meetings and perform other duties related to RACC as deemed appropriate by supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
Required
Bachelor's degree (Education preferred) and related experience required. Familiarity with literacy programs and testing and specific needs of adult learners required.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to teach grammar, vocabulary, and the writing of essays, reports, and business correspondence to prepare students for the GED test or to learn English as a Second Language. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to teach basic algebra and geometry to prepare students for the GED test. Ability to compute and teach rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software, word processing software and PowerPoint.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Teaching (preferred)
Other Skills and Abilities:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Experience with adult education population, curriculum development, mandated welfare reform, and dislocated workers are preferred.
