Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist primarily of 2-4 days per week sometime between the hours of 10:00 am-2:00 pm up to 15 hours per week. All hours are to be agreed upon between employee and supervisor.
Summary:
The College Prep Instructor reports to the Coordinator of the KEYS Program who will assign location and hours of the College Prep activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- The College Prep Instructor provides Pre/Open-Enrollment Instruction to all KEYS Students. The Instructor works with students on activities to prepare them for college including math, reading, writing, computer skills, tutoring and study skills.
- Maintain responsibility for instruction and classroom management for the KEYS Classroom
- Maintain good communications and working relationships with all staff and agencies.
- Maintain good communications and work effectively with all other offices of the college on matters concerning the program.
- Adhere to procedures and policies for the smooth day-to-day operation of the program.
- Participate in professional development activities as required.
- Be responsible for the timely completion of all forms and reports as required by the program funding source.
- Attend staff meetings

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:
Required:
Bachelor's degree and 2 years teaching experience.
Preferred:
Teaching Certificate
Familiarity with literacy programs, college placement testing, college preparation and specific needs of adult learners.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to teach grammar, vocabulary, and the writing of essays, reports, and business correspondence to prepare students for the GED test. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to teach addition, subtraction, multiplication and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to teach basic algebra and geometry to prepare students for the GED test. Ability to compute and teach rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; spreadsheet software, word processing software and power point.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Teaching (preferred)
Other Skills and Abilities:
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills required.
Experience with adult education population, curriculum development and college prep workshop.
