Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period (between the hours of 7:30 am and 8:00 pm) Monday through Friday exclusive of a 1/2 or 1 hour lunch. These hours to be agreed upon between the supervisor and the employee at the onset of employment.
Note: In this position, the employee may be required to work one evening per week. This position may require additional evening and/or weekend work with the employee having the option of working this time in addition to, or in lieu of regular hours.
Travel Requirements:
Occasional travel for high school visits and other local job-related travel is necessary; employee must have access to ready transportation.
Summary:
The Advising Center supports student success and retention through proactive advising, monitoring student progress and implementation of early intervention strategies. The individual in this role will serve both as a Student Success Navigator for assigned students and program advisor for the Electric Utility Technology Program (EUT).
As a Student Success Navigator, this individual will play a vital role by serving as a resource and guide who helps students navigate college successfully. Student Success Navigators are members of a student coaching team who provide intentional interventions, advising and support to student to identify and develop their career and educational goals. Student Success Navigators proactively monitor student progress, conduct outreach and care calls to connect student to services, provide academic /career advisement and facilitate registration. Success Navigators will be responsible for achieving retention and enrollment goals for assigned populations and documenting outcomes.
As an Advisor for the Electric Utility Technology Program, the individual in this position will oversee all activities related to the College’s partnership program with FirstEnergy’s Power Systems Institute (PSI), which includes program recruitment, coordinating class scheduling and advising EUT students through program completion.
EUT Program Advisor Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the academic advisor for students in the FirstEnergy’s Power Systems Institute (PSI) EUT AAS program; including helping students to enroll, understand and apply for financial aid, placement test, submit transcripts, connect to campus resources and to succeed academically.
- Monitor, track and advise students to ensure that they are “ready” (academically & technically) to start the PSI EUT program each semester.
- Initiate outreach and provide motivation and support to facilitate course and program completion. This may include visits to the MetEd facility to meet with students in the program.
- As directed and/or invited, represent the College at program related MetEd events both on campus, in the community and at the MetEd facility. This will include, but is not limited to pole yard graduation, PSI holiday parade participation and RACC/PSI Information sessions.
- Act as a liaison between the College and FirstEnergy instructors and PSI staff.
- Assist in recruiting students, including participating in open houses, information sessions and high school visits to promote awareness of PSI. Coordinate EUT Information sessions including room scheduling, reservation and set up request, determining RACC staff and speakers and general oversite during sessions.
- In consultation with the Academic Affairs and the Vice President of Enrollment Management assist in the preparation of class schedules, register students and coordinate text book pick up for fall, winter, spring, and summer courses in the EUT program.
- Collect and compile information; review and revise program literature; create and maintain reports including shared Applicant Tracking spreadsheet as required by FirstEnergy and the College.
Student Success Navigator Duties and Responsibilities:
- Advise new/prospective and current students in navigating the various degree and certificate programs (credit and non-credit) and help interpret academic and institutional policies for students.
- Build a positive mentoring relationship with students and work with and instruct them to resolve issues that impede their academic success.
- Meet and communicate regularly in person, by phone or via teleconference with students to provide information, resources and support as they progress through college.
- Develop individual education plans for students including: identifying student's skills, strengths, interests; clarifying educational, career and life goals; and supporting students in the enrollment process.
- Monitor student progress toward goals and proactively advise and assist students to problem solve issues that may be barriers towards achieving academic goals, persistence, attendance, and completion.
- Review and stay current on curriculum requirements and policies impacting students, including meta-majors and guided pathways.
- Provide targeted outreach and hold meetings (including remote/online) with students flagged from the Early Alert program or are identified as at-risk for retention.
- Conduct regular outreach to facilitate registration.
- Establish an academic success plan for students which identifies needs and provides support. Plans include, but are not limited to: Goal setting, GPA recovery, study skills, test anxiety and stress management skills, time management, and connecting students to helpful resources.
- Partner with coaches, faculty advisors and other navigators and support staff to develop and deploy student support, communication strategies and opportunities to empower students to communicate their needs.
- Develop materials and conduct workshops, classroom presentations and coordinate events to increase student success, retention and persistence.
- Achieve established retention and enrollment goals for assigned populations while collaborating with the Cashier’s Office, Records and Financial Aid in order to mitigate student risk of being deregistered.
- Maintain advising logs and case management files to track contact hours, issues and outcomes with appropriate documentation and reporting.
- Attend staff meetings and trainings as required.

Education and/or Experience:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degree in Business, Technical Studies, Counseling or Human Services field.
- Two years (full time equivalency) of experience working in an admissions or advising capacity in an educational setting.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Experience working with adult learners in a higher educational setting
- Work experience in technical business or industry training and operations
- Experience working in a community college
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Other Skills and Abilities:

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual: must be proficient with word processing software, spreadsheet software and standard office equipment. Experience with student or client tracking programs and ability to learn manufacturing technology software. Experience with Ellucian software preferred.
Communication Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one, small and large group situations from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate averages, percentages and sums.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
