English for Academic Purposes Program
Welcome to (EAP) English for Academic Purposes Program, formerly known as the academic ESL Program.
Our EAP Program offers credit courses for bilingual Spanish/English and non-native English speaking students. In other words, our students are admitted to RACC, eligible for financial aid, and work toward their college degree. EAP courses are also available to those who only seek to improve their English language proficiency.
Our student population, both U.S. resident and international, is diverse. Our students come from 29+ countries, including the United States of America, and speak more than 42 languages.
Our Mission
The EAP Program prepares multilingual students for success with college-level reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. In support of RACC's mission, we are committed to nurturing student success through:
- Cultivating a familial community of faculty, staff, and multilingual students.
- Fostering students' academic skills and independence.
- Serving students at varying levels of English proficiency.
- Engaging in equitable and purposeful collaboration between faculty and learning support staff.
Our Core Values
- Sensitivity
- Mutual respect
- Student engagement
- Comprehensive support
- Resourcefulness
- High-quality instruction
- Belonging
Registration Process
To register for EAP courses a student needs to apply to RACC, take a placement test, and submit an application for financial aid (FAFSA). Placement into EAP courses is based on scores on the reading and writing sections of the placement test. After the placement test, a student should meet with an academic advisor or Eleisha Moreno, the EAP Program Coordinator, to register for appropriate EAP courses.
