Working Hours:

Working hours consists of a 25-hour work week Monday through Friday. Specific work hours to be agreed upon by the supervisor and the employee prior to the onset of employment. In this position the employee will be required to work one (1) evening per week with the specific evening assigned at the onset of employment.

Note: The employee may be required to work hours outside of their agreed upon working hours up to five (5) times each semester (fall, spring, and summer).

Summary:

The Literacy Programs Professional Development & L2W Coordinator organizes and oversees professional development activities for all Literacy Programs Staff following both the PA Department of Education and RACC directives.  This position also oversees the implementation of the Learning2Work (L2W) full time GED and ESL program. 

Travel Requirements:

Position requires frequent (weekly) local travel to the CareerLink office and occasional travel to community events, conferences, seminars, etc. Employee must have ready access to transportation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Professional Development:

  1. Develop and maintain, with program administrator, the program improvement/professional development worksheet (PI/PD Plan)
  2. Serve as a key member of the Program Improvement Team and provide instructional leadership to instructors. Interpreting and guiding implementation of Pennsylvania Department of Education’s College and Career Readiness Standards
  3. Plan and present a minimum of two in-house professional development activities during the program year (July to June)
  4. Coordinate, guide and support the professional development process for staff as individuals and in subject cohorts
  5. Assist in the implementation of a variety of formats of professional development (e.g. coaching, online courses, lesson studies) that support the core features of high-quality job-embedded professional development
  6. Organize and oversee agency professional learning communities (PLC)
  7. Contribute to Unit strategic planning activities
  8. Provide direct instructional activities (tutoring or classroom instruction) for 2% of contracted weekly hours
  9. Participate in, contribute to and occasionally present for state PDE webinars and professional development events

Learning2Work:

  1. Maintain class and student records for the College and PDE with confidentiality
  2. Assist with coordination and implementation of both large and small student registrations
  3. Conduct initial student assessment testing and assist instructors with post testing
  4. Ensure that all guidelines are met for students with special needs
  5. Review and analyze E-data reports to monitor student program progress in accordance with the National Reporting Standards (NRS)
  6. Coordinate and facilitate L2W program instructor meetings
  7. Research, educate and assist instructors with implementing current career ready instructional resources
  8. Attend training for TABE, CASAS, e-Data, and or any other Adult Education training and professional development as indicated by PDE guidelines
  9. Create monthly program reports and interpret to monitor progress
  10. Maintain communication with L2W students and meet with them as needed
  11. Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Required       

  1. Bachelor's degree
  2. Two years’ experience working with GED and/or ESL students and/or programs
  3. Experience developing and implementing professional development for educators
  4. Instructional experience required
  5. Must attain Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS) and Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) Certifications with six months of onset of employment and must renew periodically as required

Preferred

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Human Services
  2. Three to five years’ experience working with GED and ESL students
  3. Teaching experience and/or certification
  4. Bilingual Spanish/English

Other Skills and Abilities:

  1. Demonstrated ability to research data and develop reports
  2. Demonstrated strong writing and verbal communication skills
  3. Demonstrated strong organizational skills

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills.  Knowledge of Ellucian Colleague or other administrative software a plus.

Communication Skills:                                                    

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability:                                                

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
