Working Hours:
Working hours for this position consist of 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. These hours are to be agreed upon between the supervisor and employee at the onset of employment. Note: the position requires working two evenings per week during dual enrollment registration periods in spring and fall semesters. Position requires up to three weekend days a year and have the option of working this time in lieu of regular hours.
Summary:
The goal of the PERKINS V Grant Program is to increase attainment of degrees, certificates, and other industry-recognized credentials and better prepare targeted populations, as identified in the Perkins V guidelines, and other beneficiaries, for high-wage, high-skill employment.
Admissions Counselors (AC) are the first college representatives that prospective students meet. An AC’s role is to assist prospective students as they complete the application and placement testing process to enroll in the College. The AC will meet with prospective students, inquire and learn about their goals and plans, and use the information to map out an educational plan. This process may take place in a single day, or, more likely, over a period of time to cultivate professional and responsive relationships with high school students, their families, and high school and CTC professional staff. The AC is responsible for keeping prospective students engaged throughout the entire process, regardless of length. The AC will learn, understand and effectively articulate the value and benefits of the education provided by the College, and develop a level of trust and rapport with prospective and new students.
This specific AC position will focus primarily, although not exclusively, on high school students and their families interested in and taking courses as part of RACC’s Early College Programs: Dual Enrollment in the High Schools, Technical and Teacher Academy, and Early Admissions. The AC will meet and advise students who are on one of these pathways to discuss academic progress and recommend next courses in their program of study.
The AC will be expected to make and meet individual as well as team enrollment goals. The AC in this position will also take responsibility for the promotion and coordination of events to grow and expand early college pathways.
The Admissions Counselor will be expected to perform all functions of this position as needed. As a guide, this position will spend time recruiting prospective students at Berks County high schools and CTC’s, with the balance of his/her time on campus coordinating and facilitating Early College outreach and recruitment activities. The AC will follow up with prospective and current DE, EA and TA students. The AC will be expected to assist, as assigned, on other enrollment services activities as part of the Enrollment Services team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively conduct face-to-face interviews and mini-information sessions with prospective and current high school students and their parents, asking appropriate questions to identify students’ goals and plans, and assisting in building course pathways for high school students to meet their career and education goals.
- Advise high school students in one of the dual enrollment CTC’s in choosing their next courses within the RACC curriculum, in consultation with the CTC instructors.
- Actively participate in the implementation of enrollment strategies as defined in the strategic enrollment management and marketing plan, with specific attention to high school and career technical education programs. For example, incentives to increase the number of early college students and credits earned.
- Be able to clearly explain and present to community members, parents, and high school students the Dual Enrollment program, Early Admissions, Technical Academy and Teacher Academy program and connect these programs to the College’s programs of study and articulation agreements.
- Oversee the early college application and registration processes during fall and spring open enrollment periods as well as anytime during the calendar year, through RACC’s CRM system.
- Work in partnership with the Records office and the school counselors for assisting students and families with course registrations and withdrawals.
- Work with the Cashier’s office to establish and maintain sponsorships to fund early college tuition for eligible students.
- Assess recruitment initiatives to determine how productive these activities are in reaching prospect and applicant yield goals.
- Have a presence at the CTC’s for the purpose of recruiting students into Technical Academy and Teacher Academy, and educating students and parents about the value of matriculating to RACC.
- Lead recruitment and outreach efforts with prospective students from the CTCs in promoting the advantages of earning Early College credit, through the Teacher and Technical Academies. Have a knowledge of SOAR (Student Occupationally and Academically Ready agreements) articulated credit.
- Plan, coordinate and execute outreach activities in the high schools and on campus visits, such as campus orientations days, parent-focused information sessions, presentations about the college’s services and programs, classroom visits, and regularly scheduled career and parent night activities.
- Travel as necessary to high school and CTC outreach and recruitment events.
- Plan, coordinate and execute the Berks Business Education Coalition ninth grade campus visits.
- In collaboration with the Career Center, plan and execute a K12 Career Day, such as STEM Day.
- Regularly attend staff meetings and participate in professional development activities.
- Submit monthly reports, including the Perkins V time and effort report, as a requirement of the grant, to supervisor and Perkins V Program Director.
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with Advising, Enrollment Services, and the college at large.
- Conduct him/herself in a professional manner and be an ambassador for RACC at all times.
- Perform other related duties as allowable under Perkins guidelines.

Education and/or Experience:
Required
1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
2. Two years’ experience with demonstrated success in customer-focused sales, marketing, telemarketing or higher education admissions/recruitment.
3. Strong oral and written communication skills.
4. Strong organizational, documentation, and time management skills.
5. Strong customer service skills working with a diverse customer base in terms of race, ethnicity, age, class, gender, ability, sexual orientation, and belief system among others.
6. Ability to set and to achieve short and long-term goals.
7. Ability to work independently within a fast-paced, dynamic, and team-oriented environment.
8. Ability to quickly adapt and thrive in an environment of change.
9. Position requires frequent local travel to secondary institutions, etc.; employee must have access to ready transportation.
Preferred
- Prior experience of high school student recruitment strategies.
- Demonstrated oral and written Spanish language fluency.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Internet skills; proficient knowledge of Colleague, and basic knowledge of CRM and/or other administrative software.
Communication Skills:
Ability to create and edit effective, engaging communication for various target groups. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondences, and basic procedural documents. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of school administrators, teachers, parents, students and the general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
