Summary:
The Director of Information Technology (DIT) acts as the College’s Chief Information Officer (CIO) and is accountable for directing the information and data integrity of the organization and its groups and for all Information Technology (IT) functions. This includes all production scheduling functions, help desks, communication networks (voice and data), computer program development, computer systems operations and ensuring policies and procedures are in place and followed.
The DIT reviews all computerized and manual systems’ information processing equipment and software for acquisitions, storage and retrieval; and helps define strategic direction relative to information processing and communication systems and operations. He or she provides overall management of all computer and communication activities within the enterprise including responsibility for providing a leadership role in the day to day operations of the IT functions as well as providing direction as the organization grows. The DIT interacts with the executive management team to monitor and validate the enterprise’s compliance with its security policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other appropriate duties may be assigned.
- Align IT objectives and programs to organizational objectives and strategies by identifying IT applications supporting business plans and/or by gaining knowledge in systems and hardware developments to ensure incorporation of up-to-date systems and processes beneficial to organizational strategies.
- Coordinate overall technology budget. In doing so, maximize the mix of in-house versus outsourced resources in order to meet or exceed user level service expectations. Participate in vendor contract negotiations for all computer equipment and software purchases.
- Manage day-to-day operations of the information technology department including directing and supervising staff, who support administrative computing, networking, user services, telecommunication and other information technology functions.
- Plan and coordinate IT-related training and staff development inside the department as well as company-wide by identifying needs and recommending solutions.
- Maintain close contact with representatives of firms providing IT services and products and leverage business relationships for fulfillment of organizational objectives.
- Select and implement suitable technology to streamline internal operations and help optimize their strategic benefits.
- Align IT risk management with enterprise-wide risk management inclusive of coordinating cyber security, protection of data and IT compliance.
- Plan usage of current systems and implementation of new systems while providing guidance to staff within and outside the organization.
- Create, maintain and enforce written policies and procedures regarding all IT operations throughout the organization.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises specified full-time and part-time employees in the Information Technology Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees: addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience Requirements:
- Experience as a CIO and/or supervisor/manager in an IT leadership capacity
- Good knowledge of IT systems and infrastructure with preference for those used in Higher Ed
- Background in researching, determining specifications, designing and/or developing IT systems and planning implementation
- Comprehensive knowledge of IT systems subjects and extensive knowledge of hardware and software with the ability to keep abreast of new technologies
- Understanding of data analysis, budgeting and business operations
- Analytical and problem solving capabilities
- Strong strategic and business mindset
- Organizational and leadership skills
- Proven communication and interpersonal abilities
- BS/BA in Computer Science or related field
Certification Requirements:
CCNA, CCNP or CCIE required.
MCP, MCSA or MCSE required.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, form.
Computer Skills:
A strong technical knowledge and understanding of IT systems is required to perform the job successfully on an ongoing basis.
