Working Hours:
This position requires working Wednesday until 7:30PM, and Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday until 5:00PM. The working schedule for each day will be 7.5 hours exclusive of a ½ or 1 hour lunch, to be agreed upon between supervisor and the employee at the onset of employment.
The position may require additional evening and weekend work on occasion with the Employee having the option of working this time in addition to or in lieu of regular hours.
Summary:
The Financial Aid/Records Advisor shall be responsible for providing excellent customer service and assistance on a walk-in basis to students needing guidance with financial aid and Records functions and will report directly to the Assistant Director of Financial Aid/Registrar.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide assistance to students over the counter on a walk-in and call-in basis for Financial Aid and Records. Advises students and parents about their financial opportunities to pay for college and registration issues.
- Provide timely, accurate, and confidential information during in-person meetings, telephone calls, and emails to answer questions concerning financial aid and registration.
- Apply customer service skills, knowledge, advocacy, and professional judgment to address both simple and complex matters to ensure that the students’ needs are met and they have a positive experience.
- Apply excellent oral and written interpersonal communication skills to deliver both positive and negative messages. Use conflict management to handle adverse situations in a professional manner.
- Serve as debt management advocate to inform students about federal and private loan terms, borrowing levels, debt management issues, loan policies and procedures, and loan entrance and exit requirements.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of administrative and compliance requirements for state and federal aid programs, and institutional policies for RACC aid programs.
- Participate in on-going training and professional development activities to stay abreast of federal and state, and Veteran’s Administration regulations, and any new course changes or additions that may affect registration.
- Adhere to FERPA regulations while managing sensitive confidential information.
- Respond to incoming Financial Aid mailbox inquiries on a daily basis.
- Complete third party correspondence including Reading Housing Authority and Office of Vocational Rehabilitation forms.
- Submit deferment forms to the various federal servicers.
- Represent the Records/Financial Aid Office in college activities, professional presentations and governance associations.
- Maintain postings of alternative scholarship opportunities on RACC Student Self-Service when requested.
- Assume role of Zoom Administrator for the FAFSA lab. Maintain lab schedule, train student workers and assist students with aid applications, and other electronic related needs.
- Keep abreast of new information in the daily NASFAA newsletters and pass along pertinent information to student workers on the proper way to complete a FAFSA.
- Perform lead role in ensuring financial aid documents are scanned and train student workers as necessary to help perform this task.
- Conduct FAFSA workshops on campus and in the community at area high schools and for Spanish speaking populations.
- Maintain scholarship database for student inquiries on the MyRACC portal.
- Place timely notices on the MyRACC portal Financial Aid path to inform students of aid opportunities and deadlines as directed.
- Other related responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities. This position will coordinate some of the activities of student employees.

Required:
- Associates Degree Required
- One year of financial aid experience or experience directly related to financial aid required
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Must complete the Don Raley Institute or equivalent training within one year of hire
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
Preferred:
- Community College experience
Certificates:
Must obtain a certificate of completion from the Don Raley Institute or equivalent within one year of employment.
Communication Skills:
Bilingual English/Spanish required. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups or board members.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, spread sheet software; database programming and word processing software. Must be able to learn college ERP software.
